Why I love summer

As the weather gets warmer, I become a much happier person! Walking every day in the sun, waking up to not having to put a coat on and get-togethers with friends means summer is around the corner.  Below is a list of reasons why summer is one of my absolute favourite times of the year!

  1. Cottage season! This year is our 10th year up on Lake Eugenia and my cottage is by far my most favourite place to spend my down time.  If I could spend all of my days there, you know that’s what I would do.  The smell of fresh air, a break from city living and spending time with family and friends – what’s not to love?  I love kayaking around our bay area and being out on the water, enjoying my surroundings.  Even if you do not have a cottage, the warmer weather gives a wonderful opportunity to get out and explore the great outdoors.  Whether it is discovering a new trail or biking a new path, get outside and enjoy the sunshine.  Our winters are so long so we might as well take every chance we can to get outside.
  2. Books! I LOVE reading.  The top four things you will find me reading about on any given day? Food, fitness, business/entrepreneurship, and girl bosses (women in leadership positions).  Again, I find summertime is when I take advantage of the opportunity to read more and learn as much as I can.  Before I can finish one book, I am already lining up my next picks.  I may have completed my U of T degree but I believe we can never stop learning, ever.
  3. Food! The warm weather has me feeling inspired not only to read more but to cook more.  Since I come home more often over the warmer months, my mom and I are always looking for new recipes to try.  For example, last night for dessert I made us a raw chocolate avocado pudding.  It definitely was a hit! Stay tuned for some new recipes in the next few weeks.
  4. Outdoor workouts! Why not take your workouts outside when you get the chance? Of course we can’t always transport the equipment we use and/or transfer certain workouts to an outdoor environment but take the opportunity when you can.  This weekend, my workouts were running suicides and doing body weight exercises on our tennis court Saturday and doing a tire workout behind our garage this morning with my brother.  If you are looking to move some workouts outside, take a look at your surroundings and see what you can do to make it happen.  See a bench? Why not use it for box jumps, tricep dips, pushups, or rear-foot elevated lunges.

I hope you all have enjoyed the beautiful weekend we have had and hope you take advantage of this weather as we continue to head into summer! Happy Sunday!

Be fierce.  Be strong.  Be vibrant.
