The best parts about DY...if I do say so myself!
As a one-person, service-based business, I technically become the product. This means that I not only focus in the business with the day-to-day interactions with clients, but I also have to focus on the business dealing with finances, websites, administration, planning, and marketing. Of course the fitness side of my business comes most naturally to me, but I do enjoy lots of the business side of it too. However, in today’s times, the marketing part of business is the most challenging for me. In fitness, Instagram seems like the only place where people get credibility regardless of actual experience and I simply cannot sell myself online so easily. So today, I decided to share my favourite things about the Discover You community and why I’d love for you to join us. For those of you that are already part of the DY community, I thank you for being here. Your presence continues to help shape this amazing, positive space in the fitness world.
Lots of options exist so you can move safely and confidently. My classes are designed to provide you lots of options so you can essentially choose your own adventure! All bodies are different and therefore require different things. Our abilities may vary but you’ll always feel like there is an option for you that works and makes you feel good.
Listening to your own body. The goal is to meet yourself where you’re at and work from there. I always encourage two main things in classes and sessions. The first is to master form, and the second is to up the intensity when you feel ready to do so. This doesn’t mean workouts are easy or you don’t challenge yourself. It means you acknowledge and recognize that high intensity isn’t always what we need. It also encourages you to recognize when safety and form need to be your priority rather than upping the intensity. You are the best guide for your own body.
Understanding where you’re supposed to feel each movement. My classes are highly educational and you’ll always come out learning something new about your body or how to execute a movement properly. Safety is the most important thing for me because I am not always going to be there for each one of your workouts, so it is important you move safely and effectively on your own. I always ask people where they feel it - because we can look similar but be feeling it in a totally different spot. DY sessions are well thought out to allow you to feel things correctly, rather than just move through flashy movements that look cool.
Creating a healthy relationship with your body and movement is the most important thing. Finding movement that feels good and makes you excited to do it again is key. There is never talk about weight loss. My marketing will never include a focus on my body, because regardless of the caption, the image always says otherwise. Our bodies are so much more important than how they look.
A variety of ways to move with me exist so you can find the one that best suits your needs, goals and budget. DY offers personal training, live class options, and on demand options. Within these services, there are single sessions and packages. Although my business must make money because it is my full-time job, I do strive to offer a variety of offerings & services so people feel they are able to participate and feel good, but not break the bank.
The community is extremely supportive and genuine. There is a certain type of person that is part of this community. They are real, extremely genuine people. They come in all shapes, sizes, ages and experiences, and are accepting of those different from them. They will cheer you on when you’re doing well, and be there right alongside you for those challenging moments during a workout. I used to wonder why certain types of people didn’t follow me online or join my classes. Now I realize that those aren’t my people. There is something out there for everyone and we can’t be all things to all people. I appreciate those that choose to move with me. It means so much!
You’ll always leave feeling better. My style is all about building you up, rather than tearing you down. I won’t yell or discourage, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be pushed out of your comfort zone. I’ll educate and inspire you along the way, we’ll have fun and you’ll feel better for it.
I have a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from the University of Toronto. I have almost 10 years of professional experience and a lifetime of personal experience in movement, exercise, and sport. I teach and am trained in most modalities but spin and yoga. But in all honesty, that stuff doesn’t matter. Anyone can teach a class, have an Instagram page, and guide you in a set of squats. However, I truly believe what makes Discover You special is everything else. The workout is important, but everything else is what keeps people coming back.
