Virtual Class Overview
There are SO many options out there when it comes to group fitness, especially right now. There are Zoom workouts, FREE IG workouts, and subscription-based plans, that I discover a new type of offering every day. It can be extremely overwhelming sometimes leading us to do nothing because we just aren’t sure what is best for us. Now is the time to explore and try new things. If you don’t like it, no sweat (well, maybe a little post-class), but you may discover something you never thought you would ever try or enjoy.
Today, I have compiled a list of my online offerings to hopefully help summarize it all in one place for you. That way, depending on what your individual goals and needs are, you can choose the class that fits best. If you ever have any questions regarding class types or how do choose one for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Class Type: Body Weight Training
Description: A full body strength training class that challenges and moves your body in a variety of positions and planes of motion. Gain strength and confidence in your form in this class.
Sweat Level: 3
Typical Equipment: Your bodyweight, a mat, optional weights/cans
Why you should take it: If you are looking for a full body strength training opportunity, this is it! You will gain confidence to master squats, deadlifts, push-ups, and so much more. We place huge emphasis on technique, so if you want to learn more cueing and safety during movement, join us. Weights can be implemented if you have access to them, so it’s a great way to build strength right now.
What people are saying: This class is amazing! It’s like a circuit class, but without the pressure and stress to go super-fast. The focus is on form and making sure that your body is moving in a safe way while building strength.
Class Type: Mat Pilates
Description: This Pilates mat class is open to all levels and experiences, with varying ranges of difficulty to meet everyone’s needs and goals. Learn how to move your shoulders, spine, and hips with control, as you gain flexibility, strength and power. With a strong focus on proper core engagement and control, the skills you learn in class are easily transferable and applied to your other training modalities.
Sweat Level: 1
Typical Equipment: A mat, other small props like mini bands, yoga blocks, or Pilates balls (all can be omitted or substituted as needed)
Why you should take it: This is a mind and body class, learning how to fully understand where we initiate movements from and how to properly engage the correct muscle groups. Walk away understanding the why and how behind the movements you do. Personally, I find it helps translate into all other movement types.
What people are saying: My core is burning, in a good way! That’s how I always feel after Pilates. The movements seem small, but they dig deep. There is also something very centering about focusing on the small muscles that normally you don’t think as much about. At the end of class I feel strong, but calm and centered.
Class Type: Cardio Dance Party
Description: Who doesn’t love to shake and shimmy?! Join the Discover You community while we shake and sweat together to the latest and greatest tunes. Have fun, break a sweat, and let loose in a judgement free, no experience required to join, environment. Running shoes (and a towel!) are required.
Sweat Level: 3
Typical Equipment: Towel and water!
Why you should take it: If you’re seeking some fun and stress relief, you’ve come to the right place. Similar to Zumba, this is a follow-the-leader type of class. Less emphasis on how you move and more emphasis on the fact that you are moving! Break a sweat, have a few laughs, and get your heart pumping.
What people are saying: The best word to describe this class is fun. Letting it all go on the dance floor is so stress-relieving. It’s the best way to get cardio into my week!
Class Type: Barre
Description: An endurance-based fitness class inspired by ballet and Pilates. We move to the beat of the music and strengthen the entire body using light weights, higher repetitions, and pulses.
Sweat Level: 2-3
Typical Equipment: A mat, light weights or cans, other small props depending on the day
Why you should take it: A fun, faster paced way to incorporate your learning from a Mat Pilates class. If you’re looking for a good burn, this is it! The class burns out muscle groups with pulses and holds, working your body in a different way than a traditional body weight training class. You will feel a lot of small muscles working you didn’t even know you had!
What people are saying: Someone recently referred to this as their in between class from Pilates and Cardio Dance Party. They could move to the beat of the music, it wasn’t too dance-y, and they could apply the technique from a Pilates class.
So, there you have it, a roundup of the current Discover You virtual class offerings! Don’t see something for you, feel free to reach out and I can point you in the right direction. Individual training more your thing? I’ve got virtual one-on-one training options available too.
No matter how you choose to move your body, and who you choose to move it with, know that you should be feeling better after your workout. Not all workouts leave us feeling the same after, since they have different demands and end goals, but remember that not all workouts need to leave you feeling drained and defeated. Movements, although can sometimes be uncomfortable and challenging, are also allowed to feel good in your body! Choose what feels right to you and you’ll be better for it.
Yours in self-discovery,
Rachel
