At-Home Workout Success Take Two
It is almost December 2020. You’re still working out at home, or maybe not even doing that anymore! Unfortunately, I feel like the end isn’t really in sight right now. My spirits are high for sure, but I do know that a lot of people have been losing momentum due to the uncertainty of the holidays and the new year. I don’t know about you, but I find it is hard to make future plans or envision future opportunities when we really just don’t know when any of that will actually come to fruition.
In May, I wrote a blog about at-home workouts. Now after not just weeks, but months of the at-home workout experience, I wanted to provide some new insights for those needing more support and a boost to find that inspiration again. The momentum was perhaps higher at the beginning but now settling into this routine, motivation and excitement to continue and power through may be lacking. I feel you. Especially if you live in a small space and with other people, I know first hand just how challenging it can be. Hang in there, and hopefully some of my thoughts below help support you.
Got a small space and living with others? Invite them to join or let them know when you intend to take time for yourself to move your body. That way they not only hold you accountable, but they can leave you alone and give you the space you need to make that happen.
Nervous about your ability? Don’t put your camera on if it makes you nervous or uncomfortable! A huge barrier for new exercises is their lack of experience and therefore lack of confidence to show up. Now, you can do this from the comfort of your own home, in whatever clothes are most comfortable for you and feel safe. And if you start to feel more comfortable, the camera option is always there for you.
Lacking the accountability? As mentioned above, your partner/family/roommate can encourage and support you. If you need extra accountability, invite a friend to participate from their home with you. Or better yet, let me know you want to take class! I will be sure to check in with you. You’ll be more likely to come because you know I’ll be expecting you :)
Not loving what working out used to look like for you? Our bodies and minds have changed this year. Your taste in your go-to workout class is also allowed to change too. Mix it up! I know some of you tried Cardio Dance Party for the first time and loved it and are now regulars! Working out should be fun and something we look forward to. Whatever is working for you, keep on going, and whatever isn’t, let it go for now.
Having trouble finding the time before, during, or after your workday? I challenge you to get creative with what movement and exercise looks like to you. A simple 10 minute stretch in the morning, 5 minute stretch at your desk, or a 30 minute workout still count. Utilize the time you do have, rather than dwelling on the time you feel like you don’t have.
Still struggling after all of this? Reach out to me at any time! A quick email or DM costs you nothing and I am more than happy to support you in finding what makes you feel best. Whether that be personal training, our on demand platform, our Zoom class schedule, or just some movement on your own time, I am here to help you feel your best.
Remember that movement is here to help you during this unprecedented time. When a lot of other things feel out of your control, know that you have the control to decide how you can take care of your body. Continue to fill your cup and keep moving in whatever way makes you feel amazing!
Yours in self-discovery,
Rachel
